JAKINTZA, 1998-1999 Photo Installation composed of 18 images, 48 inch. X 48 inch. each. A group of children in a public school in San Sebastian -Euskadi (Vasc Country -Northern Spain) was asked to hide within the classroom limits anywhere they could. I came inside 5 minutes later and took some images of the scene. Children were not instructed on how and where to place themselves.. The images focus around issues of the absence of the self, the “cultural or personal closet” as well as the political and social dynamics of everyday life in Euskadi( The Vasc Country) in relation to acculturation, nationalism and terrorism. These images resonate on impossibility, hope, fear, sense of impotency and partial negation of the persona while not a single face is been offerd to the viewer..
