“The residual space is the result of the abandonment of previously exploited land. Its origin is multiple: agricultural, industrial, urban, tourist, etc. Residual space is synonymous with vacant land. In the urban sectors, they correspond to land waiting to be assigned, or else waiting for the execution of some projects that depend on budgeted provisions or political decisions. The delays, which are often long, allow a tree cover to emerge in the urban wastelands (forests of residual spaces) that are a privileged refuge for biodiversity in those determined anthropic environments: the Third landscape constitutes a territory for the numerous species that do not are in one place elsewhere.”
