The VIDEOS/The EXPERIMENTS

back

While most of the internal functions and architectural use of the Espai d’art Contemporani de Castelló was displaced or dislocated, the regular experience of the exhibition spaces remained untouched.

Three different performances/experiments were created to explore the internal white wall space. Three different groups were selected at different times to perform or activate the space in different times: they were a group of 19 adolescents, 27 dogs from a nearby rescue center and 21 children from a local elementary school.

These works propose different kinds of behaviors, ranging from the more controlled ones for adults to a free and almost primal use for animals and children. The group of children were asked to press and move the solid walls of the institution, make a hole/ burrow where they eventually would hide. Dogs were invited to enter the museum in a herd, and left free to explore and inhabit the exhibition spaces, and to use the same hole/burrow previously made and used by children. The adults, on the other hand, followwed a more controlled experiment, highly theatrical, where absurd orders and humiliating actions blended with 70’s performative traditions.

All performances/experiments were developed for filming purposes with No audience.
